King Charles III on Saturday made an unannounced visit to greet some of the thousands in line to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II, whose coffin lies in Westminster Hall.

Charles and his son, Prince William, shook hands in a mile-long line near Lambeth Bridge on Saturday and thanked mourners.

Charles has attempted to walk several times since becoming king on 8 September in an effort to satisfy as many of his subjects as possible.

The new king also spends most of Saturday meeting dignitaries who have come to London for his mother’s funeral to be held on Monday.
