King Charles’ spokesman responded to the claim that Prince Harry had been informed of Queen Elizabeth’s death minutes before the rest of the world.

According to a report in The Telegraph, Charles told his youngest son that “his grandmother died five minutes before Buckingham Palace issued an official announcement.” The outlet alleged that shortly before landing, Harry received a call from his father while he was on the air. But by the time the 38-year-old’s plane landed, the public was informed that the monarch had died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Elizabeth died on 8 September. She was 96 years old.

The outlet reported that the Duke of Sussex was “treated no differently than any other family member, and that the King was not in regular contact with anyone during a very difficult day.”

In response to the report, a spokesperson for King, 73, told Fox News Digital on Monday that “the public was informed only after every member had been informed.”

The outlet shared that the Queen’s meltdown was reported to family members the previous evening. But at the time, “it was not considered so necessary for him to drop everything and join the race for Balmoral.”

However, the next morning all that changed. Reportedly, Charles called both his sons and told them that their grandmother was not expected to do so and that they should go to Scotland. It is believed that Harry received the call “some time” after his older brother.

“As such, Harry’s aides struggled to fly, looking at every option to bring him to his grandmother,” the report alleged. “Meanwhile, his brother joined forces with the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex to fly from RAF Northolt to Aberdeen, landing at 3:50.

“Prince Harry finally took off from Luton Airport at 5:35am – an hour after Prime Minister Liz Truss was reportedly informed of the Queen’s death,” the report continued. “Why she was not told earlier is not clear. There was a delay in issuing a public statement until Raja managed to board the plane shortly before her descent.

“The statement came out at 6:30 pm and the Duke’s plane landed in Aberdeen at 6:46 pm. He was pictured arriving at Balmoral an hour later, facing ashes. He left alone early the next morning.”

A source also told the outlet that the announcement of the Queen’s death was made public only after family members were first informed.

“Everyone was trying to get where they were supposed to be,” the source claimed. “That was the focus. And King was adamant that an official statement should not be released until all family members were informed. He was a father talking because he cares.”

On Monday, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle attended the late monarch’s funeral, which began with a procession from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. Buckingham Palace had previously confirmed that only working members of the royal family would wear military uniforms up to the funeral and during the events involved.

Harry lost three of his honorary military titles when he and his wife returned as senior members of the royal family in 2020, despite serving in the British Army for a decade and having been stationed in Afghanistan twice. “Her decade of military service is not determined by the uniform she wears, and we respectfully ask that her focus remains on the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II,” the spokesperson clarified.

Andrew, 62, spent 22 years in the Royal Navy. However, she was stripped of her military titles and royal patronage in January 2022 after Virginia Roberts Giuffre accused her of sexual assault.

An exception was made for both Harry and Andrew to wear their uniforms at once during the period of mourning. Andrew wore his military attire to a vigil of the Princesses on Friday, where he and his siblings stood as symbolic guards over their mother’s coffin at Westminster Hall. On Saturday, the grandchildren of the queen also observed the same fast. It was here that Harry wore the uniform of the blues and royals. According to a palace source, the update was done “at the request of the king”. It is believed that the decision was made by Harry without requesting a change.
