Prince William was behind the ‘Fab Four’ reunion at Windsor Castle with Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle

  • Prince William played a key role in the “Fab Four” reunion at Windsor Castle on Saturday.
  • King Charles’ eldest son invited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for a royal walk.
  • However, it reportedly required extensive negotiations which delayed his public appearance by 45 minutes.

Prince William played a key role in the reunion between himself, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday.

On the United Front, the royal couple appeared outside Windsor Castle to greet members of the public and view a wreath left in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday at the age of 96. Both Markle and Middleton wore black, while her husband wore navy suits with black ties.

The reunion between the couples – once dubbed the “Fab Four” by the British press – came after William extended a last-minute invitation to his brother and sister-in-law. A Kensington Palace spokesman told The Times of London that William, who now holds the title of Prince of Wales, invited the Sussexes to join him and Middleton on a royal walkout in front of Windsor Castle.

According to The Times, the spokesperson said, “The Prince of Wales thought this was an important show of unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family.”

There was widespread negotiations to get the four back together, leading to a 45-minute delay in their appearance at Windsor Castle, the publication reported. Representatives for both couples did not immediately respond to an insider’s request for comment.

The couples were formally dubbed "Fantastic Four."

There have long been rumors of a rift between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and William and Middleton. After Harry and Markle “stepped back” from royal life in January 2020 and an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey the following year, Insider’s Mikhaila Friel revealed the couple’s relationship with Harry’s royal relatives still appeared fraught .

For the time being, however, the former “Fab Four” are likely to spend more time in close proximity.

According to The Telegraph, Markle and Harry, who initially moved from the US to the UK for charity work before the Queen’s death, are staying at their old residence, Frogmore Cottage. It is located at the Crown’s property in Windsor, where Middleton and William recently moved with their children.

A spokesman for the couple told TODAY that Markle and Harry will remain in the UK until after the Queen’s funeral on 19 September.
