The Queen’s death has seen all the royals below Charles move up a position in the line of succession – and for Princess Beatrice, the result will be a significant new role.

The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is set to become the state’s counselor, which will give her the power to step in for King Charles if he is abroad or is disabled.

Under the Regency Act of 1937, a monarch’s spouse and the next four people in line to the throne can hold office as long as they are not over 21 years old.

Queen Elizabeth’s state advisers were Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew, as well as her husband, Prince Philip, until her death in April 2021.

While ninth in line to the throne – with all of Prince William and Prince Harry’s children ranking above him – the 34-year-old is the fourth in the over 21 age group.

In the role, according to Royal.uk, she will be authorized to attend Privy Council meetings, sign regular documents and obtain credentials of new ambassadors to the UK.

However, there are some duties that state counselors cannot perform, including Commonwealth affairs, the dissolution of parliament (unless the king explicitly instructs them), the creation of peers, and the appointment of a prime minister.

Camilla, who plays the queen consort—a king’s wife—will also be able to act automatically in his absence.

Princess Beatrice and her younger sister, Princess Eugenie, have yet to make a public statement about the Queen’s death, but Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi posted a tribute on Instagram.

The real estate tycoon described the queen as an “incredible woman” and noted the “extraordinary impression she left on the whole world”.

“It was the rock on which modern Britain was built,” he wrote.

“Feeling very fortunate that our little ones got to have a wonderful time with him this summer. Rest is (sic) peace Your Majesty. We will miss you a lot. broken hearted.”

The couple, who married in July 2020, welcomed a daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, in September 2021. Mozzie also has a 6-year-old son, Christopher Woolf, from a previous relationship.
