Ryan Reynolds is a father of three – with one on the way! — so he knows a thing or two about trying to survive this wild journey called parenting. He and wife Blake Lively share daughters James, 7, Inez, 5, and Betty, who turns 3 on October 4, so there’s no doubt that things can get pretty chaotic at home. He recently joked about a little trick he wants to use with his kids who are “generally immersed” and we’ve never seen more.
“I know it usually frowns, but if I could, I’d just tape an iPad to their face,” Adam Project star said on an appearance live with kelly and ryan Last week. “Because, really, I get the charm of it. We try to limit screen time to just a very small portion, but…” If only, isn’t it? It’s like the little kid version of wishing you kids. As can put a pacifier tape over their mouth (it’s a funny dream but we’ll never act on it, obviously).
The hosts were talking about the back to school season, and host Kelly Ripa, who is the mother of Michael, 25, Lola, 21, Joaquin, 19, with husband Mark Consuelos, said, “I remember having my kids. Getting really excited as to stuff. Like, I have to get my pencil case.”
Reynolds replied, “Um, yes. But it’s like good old-fashioned bribery, isn’t it? As it is. It’s like, oh we’re going to go back to school. I’ll introduce you to some capitalism. And we’re going to buy all this sh*t that you don’t need and we’ll never see again and it’s going to make the transition to school easier.
“‘But aren’t you excited, guys?'” joked host Ryan Seacrest.
“Absolutely. We’re going to nurture our little brains,” says Reynolds. “Nothing better than that.”
He also made fun of everything that happens on screen. “You buy a box of Cheerios, there’s like a screen on the back.”
Reynolds spent the summer with her kids, which was “quite really cool.” dead pool The star stayed home all summer and took a year off from filming (which is now officially over, as he’s working on a new project!).
“It was nice to be at home with my family,” he said, “it’s so wild.”
“Summer time at home is very special,” Reynolds continued.
Ripa said, “They are still lovely. You are in the golden age.”
“Yeah, they’re still sweet,” he agrees.
Seacrest asks if his youngest throws tantrums, to which Reynolds hilariously replies, “They all have — I Most are tantrums! ,
“But they have a ball,” he continued. “I would say, I easily said this is the best summer we’ve ever had as a family. It was great to be at home and present. Kids do what every other kid does. They, you You know, they’re drawing and coloring, they’re having their dance party, they hunt mom and dad with a crossbow in the woods…” making everyone laugh. “You think I’m kidding. It’s that time in your life. It just reminds me of when I was a little kid and everything was so easy.”
This is not the first time he has spoken about his “wild daughter”. “I’m a parent of three girls. They’re wild. I think they get rabies sometimes,” he said at a panel in Cannes in June.
Parenting isn’t easy, but Reynolds looks like he’s doing a great job of soaking it all up and making it fun. And hey, if you didn’t put any electronics tape on your kids today, you’re doing great!
